Her death meant that the boys were left in the sole care of their father Prince Charles. Over the years, Harry and William have talked about how tough the loss of their mom has been for them, but for William especially, it could have meant he had to step up for his family much earlier than he should have.
Prince William’s relationship with Prince Charles and Prince Harry
Body language expert Judi James has made a surprising analysis during an interview with Express.

James claimed that the Duke of Cambridge never had a dominant parental influence in his life for too long. In fact, after the death of his mother, there were some signs that meant he became a "semi-paternal" figure to both his younger brother Prince Harry and even his father Prince Charles.
He could be seen egging a peevish-sounding Charles into poses for the press and his sense of caution and duty and ‘getting things right’ seems to stem from lessons learnt from the soap opera and tragedy of both Charles and Diana.

James explained that Prince William developed a strong sense of responsibility borne of his determination to keep his mother’s legacy alive and this could have also pushed him to expect the rest of his family to behave a certain way as well.
Despite this switching of dynamics in the family, the expert claimed that things are much better now that the boys are all grown up. She said that Prince William has become more laid back with his own children.
He looks at his most relaxed and confident with Kate and the kids and his role with them often looks more important to him than his future destiny.

Prince Charles’ relationship with his children
James once analyzed Prince Charles’ relationship with his children when they were very young. The body language expert pointed out that there are some awkward-looking photos of him and his boys which could imply an archaic way of thinking.
He came from a generation that still often saw child-rearing as the wife’s job and although his wide, open-mouth smiles signaled genuine delight with his boys he did tend to hold them rather awkwardly, suggesting this romping and play wasn’t a regular occurrence.

Losing a parent at a young age will affect people in different ways. While both William and Harry mourned this loss in their respective ways, it did lead to a change in them that still manifests in their behavior today. But regardless of the little shifts here and there, the princes gave grown up to be capable and responsible men.
