Every once in a while, the internet offers a gift that gives on giving. This time around, social media users are having a field day over a particularly unfortunate photo that featured Melania Trump, her husband Donald Trump and the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Just a kiss?
A picture of Melania Trump leaning in for a kiss with Justin Trudeau at the G7 Summit in France caught the attention of internet users.

At face value, the FLOTUS seemed to be leaning much too closely while appearing to look smitten. It didn’t help that even though her hands were clenched with her husband’s, Donald Trump had a frown on his face.

The picture inspired several memes and even a particularly hilarious Harlequin romance novel cover.
What exactly is going on?
Body language expert Patti Wood, in an interview with InStyle, attempted to analyze the body language of those in the photo to break down what’s really going on.
Wood explained that Melania was looking at Trudeau with an expression of pleasure so it made sense that people would think the kiss was romantic.
If that was just from the shoulders up, it would look like a romantic. The body language is that of a romantic kiss.

Wood added that the First Lady’s action was purposeful, suggesting that Melania was making an intentional choice to do what is being reflected in the image.
She’s making a decision to do a seductive kiss while holding hands with her husband, and that choice is affecting her husband.

Speaking of her husband, the expert explained that whatever Melania was going for at that moment made POTUS Doland Trump to "look down in petulance and anger."
The muffles over the eyes have that V, and so it ends up on the face as very angular, and that’s one of the signals of anger.
Trump’s awkward moment
It looks like Melania wasn’t the only one that had a memorable kissing encounter at the G7 Summit. Donald Trump looked quite awkward himself as he attempted to share a kiss with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel.

There’s no doubt that the internet has plenty to feed off on in these unusual kissing encounters of the US President and First Lady.
