Research in which 17,000 people were polled showed that excessive consumption of sweet soda may lead to the development of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – on par with smoking.

People who regularly consume fizzy drinks and other sweet drinks that contain artificial sweeteners have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Research in which 2,801 people aged 20-55 took part discovered a substantial connection between consuming soft drinks and the chance of developing chronic bronchitis. However, the mechanism of this connection is yet unknown and further research is required.

Another research carried out by American scientists has found a link between sodas and obesity. The findings have shown that consuming artificial sweeteners contained in soft drinks increases the risk of developing this health condition.

Apart from all the diseases listed above, excessive consumption of soft drinks may have other negative effects on your health, such as weight gain, skin flare-ups, and teeth problems.
